Hello, in this Post I’ll be talking about my time I spent at Buchanan Bus Station on 22/03/2025 whilst visiting family in Glasgow for the weekend. I used to spend hours here at the bus station taking photos of buses coming in and out of the Bus Station! The layout is rather strange unlike that of Birkenhead Bus Station or any others in Merseyside!

There are 100s of bus services coming in and out of the Bus Station, alongside Coach & Express services between Glasgow & many other Scottish cities like Dundee, Edinburgh & Fife! There also services to Glasgow & Edinburgh Airports, these operate frequently are usually Express services so they don’t stop everywhere!
The idea behind these bus station posts is to showcase the types of services, vehicles & general enjoyment of spending an hour or so outside or around various Bus Stations! The next bus station I’ve visited is at Silverburn Bus Station which is also a Shopping Centre!

Staring with fist bus being the main operator in Glasgow along side McGills and Stagecoach, Arriva used to feature in Glasgow but McGill’s took over about ten years ago and are now one of the largest operators in Glasgow. This Alexander Dennis enviro 400 MMC is seen leaving Buchanan Street bus station on the 88 to Harestanes via Springburn, I’ve yet to sample this route but next time I visit I plan to do that!
I rather like Buchanan Street because of its layout, you can get some decent shots of buses turning round heading to there stand to begin their journey. One new addition is the X1 operated by JMB Travel, this service I believe was axed by First group in 2020 due to the pandemic, however local residents of Hamilton complained and JMB now operate this service between Buchanan & Hamilton!

As you can see from the branding they’re trying to compete with First group as they where the original operator for the X1, I’ve yet to sample this route but hopefully next time I come up I’ll be doing just that! I do have plans to write some bus route reviews here on my blog the first one being from Silverburn to Glasgow City Centre operated by First group.
Another common sight here at Buchanan Street bus station are coaches! Running express services to various cities in Scotland, serving Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Perth & Inverness to name a few! One of the main operators I’ve seen is called City Link with a striking livery of blue and yellow with branding showcasing the various cities they connect

Continuing on from City Link let’s focus on McGills another fairly large operator in Glasgow with many services to places like, Paisley, Largs, East Kilbride and so many more I can’t remember them! I do rather like McGills especially there electric buses called Yeutong, these are rather unique we don’t have them back home.

Another type of bus I don’t see very often is this Mercedes Citaro from 2014, I’ve not been on these as much as I would like too. I’ve heard a lot of people rather like them. I don’t really have a particular favourite type of bus but if I was to go out there and say it would be a classic enviro 200 from the early 2000s! When I was younger in my early teens, I’d spend hours just hanging around Buchanan street bus station.
Whilst visiting family they’d drop me off and I’d just be able to take tons of photos just like I’ve done today! I do have a Flickr account where I’ll be sharing a lot of my future photos taken using a Pansonic LUMIX G6, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this series and I’m hoping to be visiting Chester bus station sometime next week and Liverpool one.

And finally another one from my childhood is this Wright Gemini seen about to leave Buchanan Bus Station on a service to Kilsyth 89 operated by First Group. I mentioned before that first group is indeed the largest operator in Glasgow and one of the main ones in Scotland as a whole service places like Aberdeen, Inverness and even Perth! With that said I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading about my time at Buchanan Street Bus Station
