Good afternoon, heading to Liverpool Lime Street for my train to Glasgow Central, I left New Brighton at 14:53 currently stood at Birkenhead Park at the time of writing this blog post! I am planning to do more posts like this when I’m out and about documenting my days and journeys!

New Brighton Station

As I’m heading underground now, I’ll be joining the loop just after Hamilton Square stopping at James Street, Moorfields & Liverpool Lime Street stations where I’ll then take the lift up to the main concourse! My train to Glasgow arrives around 1545 and it’ll be 397011 I don’t think I’ve been on that one yet!

I have a few interesting stories to tell about my trips with TransPennine Express to Scotland! None have ever gone to plan albeit with a few exceptions! I am hoping that today’s trip will go to plan and I’ll be getting to Glasgow around 1949! I then plan to get a train from Glasgow Central to my final destination.

Departing New Brighton to Liverpool
Birkenhead North Station

Having made it to Liverpool Lime Street, managed to grab a bite to eat for on the train as I don’t get into Glasgow until 1949! The journey to Glasgow is as follows: St Helens Central, Wigan North Western, Preston, Lancaster, Oxenholme Lake District, Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie & Glasgow Central, it’s due to take 3hrs 47 Minutes hopefully nothing bad will happen!

Finally boarded my train on platform 5 to Glasgow Central! I am planning to Upgrade to First Class, I’m hoping it’s not going to be too expensive! The journey is scheduled to take 3hrs 47 Minutes arriving into Glasgow Central at 19:49, departing Liverpool Lime Street at 16:12

I do love traveling up the west coast mainline especially direct to Glasgow, I would usually travel to Glasgow with Northern & Avanti West Coast changing either at Wigan North Western and then continuing up the west coast mainline on a Pendolino! This time I’m on 397011 with TransPennine Express

Class 397011 to Glasgow Central
Decided to Upgrade to First Class

Leaving Liverpool Lime Street on time at 16:12, our first stop is St Helens Central still in Merseyside from here our next stop will be Wigan North Western after that I’ll be officially on the West Coast Mainline flying at around 100/125 Miles per hour towards Scotland! Currently sat in First class and I’ll be upgrading my ticket. So far the Ticket inspector hasn’t come down to check tickets yet.

The journey so far is running 1 minute late hopefully we won’t be too late into Glasgow Central as I have to then change for another train to my final destination which will be Hawkhead with Scotrail! I am planning to do a blogpost on the famous Glasgow Subway, I’ll be also launching a new series here called Let’s Ride!

First Class on TPExpress

So just at Preston Station, unsurprisingly for TPE we are running on time! From Preston I’ll be heading to Lancaster, Oxenholme, Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie & Glasgow Central still got about 3 hours left to get to Glasgow Central! So far it’s been a rather pleasant journey. The seats in first class are so much better and comfier too!

Having left Preston on time! I’ve been offered some food however I just had my meal deal which I bought earlier from Tesco, I should have not done that tbh and just had what I was potentially offered in first class! I’ve never had a cooked meal on a train before so sadly I’ve missed out!

Unfortunately I’ve had to move back into Standard class, the upgrade costs are only on the Weekend which is Saturday & Sunday and I left Liverpool in Peak time it was gonna cost me over £100! To Upgrade to first class! I managed to sit there from Liverpool to Lancaster so it isn’t all bad!

Now back in Standard class. Heading towards Oxenholme Lake District, the journey is going well so far currently running on time! I believe you can upgrade to Standard Premium or First Class with Avanti West Coast using the Seat Frog app or onboard there trains without paying for a new train ticket!

Lancaster Station
On route to Carlisle
Arriving into Carlisle

So as we approach the border with Scotland & England, just arriving into Carlisle station owned and operated by Avanti West Coast, I have been to this station before but not for a long time! I need to visit the Cumbrian coast line again and do some stations along that route as it is breathtaking and stunning.

Crossing the Border into Scotland

With an hour and 10 Minutes left of my journey to Glasgow Central! Running a few minutes late we should be arriving into Glasgow Central at 19:55 as where running 5 minutes late at the time of writing this! I do hope you’ve enjoyed reading about my journey to Glasgow as it’s been quite fun writing and being creative with it!

Our penultimate station is Lockerbie which is the first station in Scotland on the West Coast mainline! You also have a branch heading towards Glasgow Central operated by Scotrail, this line runs via Barrhead the first stop is Gretna Green which is where people under the age of 16, or aged 16 go to get married without consent!

Final Approach to Glasgow Central

On the final approach to Glasgow central! I’ll be then changing for a train to Hawkhead operated by Scotrail! It’s been a fairly simple journey, no delays apart from just general running late behind slower trains. But it’s been a pretty smooth journey to say the least!

I do absolutely love Glasgow Central station, it’s massive with 17 Platforms, 15 Above ground and 2 Low Level platforms as well! It’s a stunning station with a rather well known clock in the centre of the main concourse!

So on board my final train to Hawkhead! Which I have been to before and will feature in a future Every Station blog post! I’m going to end my blog here as I’ll just be continuing to Hawkhead now and it is also dark! It’s not too cold here either which is nice!
