In today’s adventure, I traveled around Glasgow using the Glasgow Roundabout Ticket from SPT & Scotrail, it cost me £7.40! The day started at Barrhead Station, this line was electrified in the last couple of years and is running class 380s by Scotrail. I rather like the Class 380 and the Class 385 by Hitatchi & Siemens they are really nice trains.
However on the day of travel it was a Sunday and it appears that they don’t appear to operate the Glasgow Central – Barrhead service on a Sunday it is ran by the normal DMU From Kilmarnock. Barrhead Station consists of 3 Platforms, 2 through Platforms & one Bay platform.

From Barrhead station I then travel down to Glasgow Central where the start of my adventure properly begins! I really like Glasgow Central station, the old architecture of the shops is just stunning. Especially the fact that Greggs is also a feature at Glasgow Central but doesn’t have the Blue / Orange Logo that most Greggs stores feature.
From Glasgow Central I then headed down to the Low Level Platforms to catch a train towards Milngavie in the North of Glasgow. The line it’s self does run underground very similar to how it works on Merseyrail. The Glasgow Low Level Platforms really remind me of the low level platforms at Liverpool Central! Very similar design and layout too.

As you can see here in the above image, the layout of Liverpool Central low level platforms are indeed very similar to the design at Glasgow Central, Liverpool Central once had a high level station like in Glasgow however it got closed in 1977 when the northern line link had opened to replace Exchange station with Morfields Station & the Loop opened at the same time connecting it to Liverpool Lime Street.
From Glasgow Central I then take the train towards Milngavie I don’t go all the way there because I had to be at Wrightcraigs for a certain time. However I do get off at a station I’ve never been to which was Westerton where your can get regular services to Motherwell, Glasgow Central & Queen Street and beyond to Edinburgh which I thought was rather cool.

From here I took the train that was heading towards Edinburgh and I decided to change at Partick Station for a train towards Motherwell the other end of the line from Milngavie, the line cross Glasgow through a cutting and also some not so deep tunnels stopping at stations like Argyle Street & Glasgow Central Low level!
I travelled from Partick all the way to Motherwell on a 3 Car 318 these trains remind me of the Class 507/8 Units which operated on Merseyrail but have now all been withdrawn and replaced by the class 777 trains by Stadler. Scotrail still use Class 320/318 units on these cross city lines as well as class 344 trains I believe were built in the UK!

As I said from Partick I caught a 318 to Motherwell, the train was very busy for a Sunday afternoon I believe at the time of my adventure there was also a Football game on for Scotland for World Cup qualifiers or something I think. When I had arrived at Motherwell I managed to grab a quick snack and a drink from a nearby shop, which meant I could properly tick off Motherwell Station and exit it.
I then caught my 2nd to final train towards Glasgow again to then head back up to Whitecraigs which I have done a Blog Post on HERE, From. Glasgow Central, I had about half an hour to catch my final train towards Neilston, I have been to Whitecraigs before but not for quite a while so it was nice to revisit it.

And finally once back at Central as I mentioned before I make my way to Whitecraigs, I wanted to get the earlier train to head up to Neilston as I haven’t been there for quite some time, however I decided to miss the train as it was very busy with lots of football fans getting off at Mount Florida, I decided to miss that and wait for half an hour for the next one.
I must say though, Glasgow Central has to be in my top 10 favourite stations to have visited, let me know below in the comments if you would like me to write a blog post about my top 10 stations or even my least favourite stations I have visited like Birmingham & Leeds! However it’s finally time to board the train to Whitecraigs.
