Hello and welcome to another Bus Blog, today I travelled to Hooton on Merseyrail from New Brighton changing at Hamilton Square to bored the 09:50 to Chester getting off at Hooton where I was greeted by to lovely buses a Wallasey Coporation & a London Transport Route Master in its beautiful Red Livery! I chose to board the Route Master as I have been on the Wallasey bus quite a few times in the past.

From Hooton station we then travelled towards Hooton Park where the main event was taking place. I would also meet my good friend Nicholas at this point as he had already had a trip on an old double decker from Hooton to the Park its self. The park is a disused airfield which weirdly housed an old air raid shelter which we took a look inside.

I do enjoy going to these bus rally’s and events held by volunteers, I am planning to attend the next event at Hooton Park in October later this year. Due to the Tram System out of use at the Transport Museum in Birkenhead they are holding the Bus Show in Hooton Park in October on the 5th.

As well as a wide variety of London Transport Route Masters, I also found a bunch of ex Midland buses from Midland Red to National Express WM, the second image is seen in this stunning 2 tone blue & cream livery. The vehicle in Blue is a Mk1 MetroBUs, as well as this the other vehicle was painted in Red, I am unsure of the Model names but I believe they are both Leyland’s.

I also sore a variety of Double Deckers from MTL (Merseyside Transport Limited) Before the days of Arriva when they took over I believe in the late 1990’s early 2000s I remember vaguely the takeover happening as the Olympian Palatine IIs went from Red & Cream to a Blue / Green and Cream livery over night.

You can see a rather unique example of one of the Olympians Arriva used to operate back in the early 1990s to the late 2000s when they were eventually replaced by a batch of Enviro 400’s in 2008. Those enviro 400s now operate out of Bootle & also in Chester depots so it’s crazy to think that they are still knocking about doing regular trips.

We took a ride from Hooton Park to Chester onboard the Olympian and it brought back a lot of child hood memories from trips out with my family, church & youth group that I had attended when I was younger. We then made our way back to the site and whilst there took a break to have a look at some of the more interesting vehicles on show.

We then decided to take one last right on another London Transport single decker bus, unsure of the make or the model of the vehicle however it was absolutely stunning. The bus took us to Eastham Ferry an area of the Wirral I rarely explore as it is rather out of the way from everywhere else. The nearest station being Eastham Rake!

We then made our way back to the site for one last look around and also to chat to a few fellow enthusiasts that attended the event too. I really enjoyed my time there and I am looking forward to going back in October to attend the next bus event hoping to see some more familiar buses.

I did make a video of the day its self however I felt it wasn’t up to scratch so sadly you will have to make do with this a BLOG post. I am planning to continue writing blog posts as I still need to write about the following bus stations: Manchester Piccadilly & Shudehill, Cardiff Buses & the temporary St Helens Bus Station whilst the new one is being built.
