In today’s Post, I visited St Helen’s Bus Station during my bus journey to Manchester. Currently, there is a temporary bus station in St Helen’s because the old one is undergoing significant reconstruction. The primary operator in the area is Arriva North West, but smaller operators like Hattons also operate there, and occasionally, a Stagecoach bus makes an appearance.

I quite liked the layout of the temporary bus station in St Helen’s. It was easy to get some decent photos of buses coming in and out of each section of the station itself. Due to its temporary nature, the stops were on either side of the road near the Range shop in St Helen’s, not too far from the original bus station, which is currently still under construction.
I saw quite a few Optare Solos in the standard Arriva Interurban livery, which was lovely to see. Optare makes some really nice buses, especially the Solo, which brings back childhood memories as it has always been my favourite type of bus. I also noticed several Puslar 2s still around, even though they seem to be getting replaced frequently lately.

Another familiar sight was the Enviro 200 MMCs operated by Hattons Buses, one of the last remaining small family-run bus companies in Merseyside. Halton Transport was similar to Warrington’s but ceased trading back in 2013, 11 years ago. I quite liked their buses, but now it’s mostly Arriva. Another common sight is the Enviro 400.
St Helen’s doesn’t offer much variety in terms of buses. Once the new Bus Station opens, I plan to revisit the area and take more photos, as I didn’t have much time due to catching my next bus to Leigh, where I took the V1 along the Leigh Guided Busway. Let me know if you’d like me to write up the journey I originally filmed for YouTube.
