Hello, in this Blog I decided to create an epic challenge to Ride every single Class of train that operates in the Merseyside from the Class 777 to the awful 769. I rode every single one over two days! It was a really fun challenge and I rather enjoyed my self making the video and riding every class of train in Merseyside!

I started my day at Moorfields train station on the Wirral & Northern Lines in Liverpool city centre! My first train was Class 777 recently introduced back in 2023 by Merseyrail! I remember being on the very first one being 777049 to enter service on the Kirkby line before Headbolt Lane opened later that year!
Once at lime street I was trying to decide what my first proper train was going to be and thankfully there was a Class 730 in platform six heading to Birmingham New Street however I was only going as far as Liverpool South Parkway! These trains were recently introduced by London North Western Railway earlier this year in 2025! I rather like them a lot!

My next class to tick off is one of my least favourite the class 185, I’ve never liked these trains they’re cramped, uncomfortable and always warm whenever I travel on them. I travelled on them a lot when I used to head to Redcar from Manchester however I’m glad I don’t have to ride them as much now. I took this unit down to Liverpool Lime Street again, I’ll be going back and forth between South Parkway & Lime Street as my pass covers as far as there.
Once back at Liverpool Lime Street I decided to catch a 156 to West Allerton station to get a decent ride on the unit, I also was able to then catch a 150 one stop to Mossley Hill, from there I caught a 195 which I much prefer to the older units operated by northern! The 195s were introduced in 2019 to replace the infamous Pacer trains which entered service in 1980!

From South Parkway I headed back to Liverpool Lime Street again, I was hoping to catch a 158 however the EMR service I wanted got cancelled but weirdly another service by EMR showed up that I wasn’t aware off! However I decided to catch the 197 to whisk me back to Lime Street! I really do like the class 197 however I know that a lot of folk dislike them.
I also decided to wait till after four pm to catch a Class 397 as far as St Helens Central, I like these but I’ve had some bad experiences with them traveling up and down from Glasgow however that’s a story for another time. From St Helens I got a class 323 to Garswood to then catch what was going to be my last train of the day a class 331, I decided to go back out again on Tuesday to finish the challenge.

From Garswood I took my final train to Liverpool Lime Street, however the picture is from a previous day at Rain Hill where the famous Rain Hill trials took place in 1829, four years after the Stockton to Darlington railway opened. However let’s head back to Lime Street and continue with our Quest to ride every single class of train in Merseyside!
The next day, I head back into Liverpool to catch my first train of the day which is going to be a class 158, this took me to Liverpool South Parkway again where I then caught a class 730 back to Lime Street again. I rode a class 350 on the day before in the evening back to Lime Street. It was a 350/2 which I really don’t like and I’m glad they’re replacing them!

From lime street I took a 331 to take me to Newton-le-Willows where I caught the class 802 to whisk me once again back to Liverpool Lime Street, feel like I’ve gone to lime street so many times this week. It is one of my favourite mainline stations, if you would like me to do a Blog on that let me know in the comments below!
Once back at lime street, I walked round to Liverpool central to catch the Southport train for my second to last train being the rather ugly class 769! Again in my top 5 least favourite trains along side the class 185 which I rode on Monday! I took the 769 to Meols Cop and then caught another 150 back to Southport before making my way back to Liverpool. I then caught a class 170!

And finally we reach the end of my challenge at Bidston where you can change for the Borderlands line to Wrexham General & Central in North Wales a route which I’ve rode many times. I took the class 230 to my final station of Upton which is also the least used in Merseyside! The class 230s have been in operation for 2 years now and they seem to be improving each year!

Let me know what you think of this adventure in the comments below! I would really appreciate it. I really enjoyed this challenge and I really hope you did too!
