While heading to town this evening for some Halloween fun with friends, I got off at Moorfields Station to check out the new barriers installed at the main entrance. They have also been added to the main entrance of Moorfields today!

I was really impressed with the design, and I also like the lights as they reflect those of the new Class 777 Merseyrail trains in operation on the network! I might do a three-year review of the new Merseyrail trains if you would be interested in that.
The new gates complement the Smart Ticketing system introduced in August, known as Tap & Go. This system allows the use of Smart or Bank Cards instead of purchasing tickets at a ticket office. As the name suggests, you simply tap and go! I tried it out myself in August, and it works rather well!

You can see that there are lights on the barriers themselves, indicating which are in use and which are red. I rather like that feature, as I mentioned earlier, it reminds me of the Class 777 trains when the doors are opening and closing, they flash red! I am looking forward to seeing them being rolled out on the entire underground network!

Let’s hope these new barriers don’t fail like some of the older versions have in recent years! I’m interested to know what the viewers of this blog think of the new system. If you’ve also used the Tap & Go system on Merseyrail, I would love to hear your thoughts!
From Merseyrail
“We’re excited to share that the first of our brand-new Smart Gates have been installed at the Old Hall Street entrance of Moorfields station
Tap & Go is already making journeys quicker and easier using MetroCard. Now these sleek and modern gates are the next step in transforming how you travel on the Merseyrail network.
They will allow for future use of contactless bank cards and smart devices to pay for travel. Watch this space… Exciting things are on the way!”

Writing about various topics, such as the new station on the Greater Anglia network and the new barriers at Moorfields station, has been enjoyable. I hope to continue writing about similar subjects in the future. It will be strange to say goodbye to the old-style ticket barriers.
That’s all for this post. Let me know your thoughts on them, and also if you would use contactless payment on our network. I’m looking forward to trying it out once it’s fully rolled out in the coming months!
