In my next Every Station adventure, I re visit the line between Liverpool Lime Street & Warrington Central, I start most of my adventures at Liverpool Lime Street which opened in 1836 replacing the earlier Crown Street station opening in 1830. From Lime Street I catch my first train to Mossley Hill Station.

West Allerton Station 14/2589

From Mossley Hill I headed to West Allerton station as the trains are relatively frequent between Liverpool Lime Street & South Parkway thanks to London North Western Railway operating an hourly service from Mossley Hill Station to Birmingham New Street now using the brand new Class 730 trains which entered service a couple of months back.

Once we arrived at West Allerton, I didn’t have very long to wait for my next train to take us to Liverpool South Parkway which is a major Interchange in Liverpool. You can change for Merseyrail to head back into the city on the old Cheshire Lines line from Liverpool Central to Warrington Central. Which I plan to do in the near future.

Merseyrail Platforms at Liverpool South Parkway

From Liverpool South Parkway we start skipping stations out, heading to our next station which is Hough Green, probably one of the nicest and well looked after stations on this line. It also reminds me of the Metcalf N Gauge Model railway building which I am going to use for my little model railway I am currently building.

I really like Hough Green with its station building, waiting room and the long platforms, very similar to that at Widnes & Sankey for Penketh which was my Awkward station for the day. I had such a lovely day filming / taking photos of each station which I had originally planned to share on a Separate Blog however I have decided to keep everything here.

Hunts Cross Station 17/2589

From Hough Green I then head to Hunts Cross Station which is also the terminus of the Merseyrail Northern line between Hunts Cross & Ormskirk as currently at the time of writing his, they haven’t changed the time table for the line to run to Southport as it used to do before the Class 777 Trains came into service back in January 2023.

From Hunts Cross we made our way to Widnes, another station very similar to that of Hough Green, all the stations along this route were built by the Cheshire Lines Comittee the line ran from Liverpool Central to Manchester the second line to that of the original ran from Lime Street to Manchester Central (Liverpool Road).

Widnes Station 18/2589
Sankey for Penketh 19/2589

At Widnes, I decided to head towards Hough Green, however my train from Warrington Central arrived a few minutes late which meant that I didn’t have much time to change and also film / grab photos of Halewood Station. I decided to get off at Hough Green Station once again to change trains for Sankey for Penketh Station which was the Awkward Station of the day.

From Sankey, I didn’t have that long to wait for my next train to then take me to Halewood Station and light was starting to fade at this point too. However things went very wrong at Halewood Station, where I had around 15 minutes to wait for my train to take me to Warrington West which was a new Station opening in 2019. My train didn’t arrive for another 40 Minutes!

Halewood Station 20/2589
Warrington West Station 21/2589

From Warrington West I had a short connection no thanks to my train from Halewood being delayed, originally I would have had half an hour before my train to Warrington Central which was my final station of the day on this trip. I really like Warrington West Station, I remember coming here on the Opening Day and interviewing Chris Jackson the then Regional Manager Director for Northern.

From Warrington West my final train was a crummy 150 which I am not a fan off and hopefully they will be replaced very soon with brand new trains which I believe Northern are currently undergoing case work for. I hope that they get something similar to what they currently have in the 195/331 Fleet introduced back in 2019.

Warrington Central 22/2589

That’s it for this blog post, I really hope that you enjoyed it. I am planning to share photos from my trip between Southport & Wigan Wallgate, that has three Awkward Stations being, New Lane, Bescar Lane & Hoscar all getting a two hourly service where as the rest of the line gets a half hourly service from Southport – Manchester Oxford Road.

I am also planning to share an update on the amount of stations I have visited since 2022 when I had originally started visiting stations for this challenge to visit 2589 in the United Kingdom. Annoyingly I have also lost a lot of the photos due to deleting or just buying new phones in between. I hope you’re enjoying the series so far.

I was on a service that stopped at Sankey about a year ago and remember thinking the station looked a bit worse for wear; God knows what state it is in now!
