In this post, I am heading to North Wales by bus. This was originally filmed back in July 2025, when I travelled using the 1BWS Ticket, a rather affordable day ticket costing just £4.70 or thereabouts with my travel pass, which I use for local bus services and rail services on Merseyrail and Northern.

I began my day at Chester Bus Interchange, which has been recently rebuilt to replace the old, rundown bus station that once served Chester. The first bus I took was a Wright Pulsar 2 heading towards Connah’s Quay, with a brief stop in Shotton. The service was the 11/11A, operated by Arriva Wales.

I had a short wait in Shotton before catching my next bus towards Rhyl, which was an Alexander Enviro 400 ex Sapphire service. I quite liked the interior of the Enviro, with its large, comfortable seats on the top deck. I took the number 11 towards Rhyl but decided to get off at Holywell Bus Station to catch the F18 service with P&O Lloyd.

The F18 from Holywell took me just over an hour to reach Rhyl Bus Station. The journey was quite pleasant, offering lovely views and scenery. It also took me through various towns and small villages in North Wales before arriving in Rhyl itself. I really liked Rhyl Bus Station and am planning to write a blog post about it in the near future.

From Rhyl Bus Station, I didn’t have to wait long for my next bus, the Arriva 13 towards Llandudno and Prestatyn. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride on a classic Wright Pulsar (Standard). The route took us down some beautiful country roads with stunning scenery, running alongside the North Wales mainline as well!

Not long before reaching my final destination, I decided to disembark not too far from Conwy. This allowed me to catch another bus, a lovely Optare Solo operated by Arriva Wales. Arriva is the main operator in North Wales, providing services to Llandudno, Conwy, Holyhead, and many more destinations in the area.

The Optare Solo took me to Conwy itself, which is probably one of my favourite places to visit in North Wales. With the Castle and Llandudno not being too far away by train or bus, I decided to walk to another bus stop to catch my final bus towards Llandudno, which ended up being around 30 minutes late.

Arriva Wales (MCV Evora) BV72 KLP – 3186 (5)

Our final route of the day was the MCV Evora, taking me towards Llandudno. From there, I took the train all the way back to Chester via Llandudno Junction. I’ll also be sharing my adventure between Chester and Holyhead on here soon, visiting every station! I arrived in Llandudno around 5pm before heading to Llandudno Station to head home.

Thank you for reading today’s blog post. I am thoroughly enjoying writing these adventures rather than filming them and turning them into videos. I hope to embark on another adventure like this soon, so please consider subscribing to the blog to receive updates when I post next.

Just shows you that if you look hard enough and try hard enough, there’s cheap tickets, rovers and options out there.
