In this next instalment of my series, Every Station, we tick off stations on the west side of the Wirral between New Brighton, Birkenhead, and West Kirby. I recently covered these two lines in a Branch Line post, so if you haven’t read it, please head over and check it out. We start our day at New Brighton station, 48/2589. Annoyingly, I didn’t get photos of the station at the time of filming.

Our next stop from New Brighton was Wallasey Village, where we caught a train to Wallasey Grove Road before heading towards Birkenhead North. This line is one I’ve travelled on many times, as it’s my local line. It’s where most of my adventures begin, as it connects me to Liverpool Lime Street, the gateway to the rest of the UK!

Starting from Wallasey Grove Road, I head to Birkenhead North, a junction station for lines towards West Kirby and Liverpool. From Birkenhead North, I continue to Leasowe Station, placing us firmly on the West Kirby line. From Leasowe, I proceed to Bidston, another junction station with services to Wrexham, Shotton, and Chester.

As I mentioned earlier, from here I am heading to Leasowe, which is my next station. When I embark on these station adventures, I tend to skip one and then return to it before proceeding to the next station along the line. For example, if my first station is Station A, my next might be Station C, and so on. If the line is too long, I might go A – D and back again, if that makes sense.

Bidston Station 53/2589

From Bidston, we head to our next station, Meols. This station gained Step Free access in 2019/20, meaning that people with wheelchairs, buggies, or limited mobility can use the lifts to access the platforms below the street. Since the 777s entered service, it has become fully accessible as they are level with the platform, which is a feature I really like.

I travel from Meols to Moreton Station. There are, I believe, three Moreton stations in the UK: Moreton in Marsh, Moreton (Dorset), and the main one in Merseyside. In recent years, Moreton has experienced extensive housing development in the area, including right next to the station. The hope is that Moreton will gain more popularity, which would be great.

From Moreton, I decided to catch the 407 to take us to Holyoke Station, where I catch the train to Manor Road, which will take me to West Kirby. However, I decided to then head to Birkenhead Park & Conway Park to tick off those stations too. So far, I have covered the line from Liverpool Central to Southport & now New Brighton / West Kirby. The next one I will be covering is James Street to Chester.

The Merseyrail Network for me is rather special as it where I made a name for my self on YouTube creating videos, visiting every station and also trying to ride every 507/8 before they left the network. At the time of writing this post, it’s been a year since the final tour you can read all about it Here, it’s crazy to think it’s been a year since the final farewell.

Starting from Manor Road, I make my way to West Kirby, which isn’t the final stop for this post. I then proceed to Birkenhead Park. As I mentioned earlier, I decided to include both Birkenhead Park and Conway Park in this adventure, which was originally shared in a video on TikTok. However, I am now writing about it here on WordPress. I have about 10 minutes to spend at West Kirby before heading to Birkenhead and then Conway Park.

And finally our penultimate station of Birkenhead Park we make our way underground not for the first time in this series as we head to our final station Conway Park, this station opened in 1998 however Birkenhead Park opened in the early 1800s and was also a Terminus station for the Wirral Railway with New Brighton & West Kirby services terminating here.

The line was electrified in 1938 meaning that through service to James Street & Liverpool Central (Low Level) Could commence, however this changed with the advent of the Liverpool Loop opening in 1977 replacing Exchange & Liverpool Central terminus buildings. If you would like me to do a detailed history of the Liverpool Loop & Old Terminus Stations do let me know.

Finally, concluding this adventure at Conway Park station, the newest on this line, which opened in 1998. It’s astonishing to think it’s not even 30 years old yet. I believe I was only six when it opened. I’m also eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Baltic Station, hoping to be there when it becomes accessible to the public in the next few years.

Something about Conway Park station that I have always liked: not quite an underground station, but not quite an above-ground one either!

Yes I do love Conway park too! Tho the road is being done up at the moment.
