Beginning at Birkenhead North station, I explored the small yet charming branch line on Merseyrail’s Wirral line to New Brighton. The journey included stops at Wallasey Village and Wallasey Grove Road stations, as well as the disused Warren station, which closed in 1915 during World War I. I have a fondness for this railway line as it is my local line—short but sweet, taking approximately 13 minutes from Birkenhead to New Brighton.

From Birkenhead North, I travelled to the charming Wallasey Grove Road station, which opened in 1888 alongside Birkenhead North and New Brighton stations around the same time. However, Birkenhead North had opened forty years earlier, established by the Birkenhead & Hoylake Deeside railway with a terminus at West Kirby. It also featured a junction station for services to Hooton via Parkgate, which is now part of the Wirral Way.
I quite appreciate the very Victorian design of Wallasey Grove Road Station, particularly the station building. However, the combination with the brand new Stadler trains creates an interesting mix of old and new, along with electrification. The line was first electrified in the 1930s, similar to the West Kirby branch, which will be the subject of the next post in this adventure. For now, we’re focusing solely on Merseyrail.

From Wallasey Village Station, I took my final train to New Brighton, the end of the line and the terminus of the branch. New Brighton is currently my home station, but not for much longer, as I will be moving out of the area, which I am very much looking forward to. I have enjoyed living along the line from New Brighton, but I am eager for a change of scenery and will update you on my new living conditions and location.

You might be wondering why I keep changing my mind about this challenge. I have ADHD, which makes me get bored and want to start over. Being autistic, I often go around in circles. I am now going to focus solely on completing the stations around England. Additionally, I plan to revisit the Borderlands line from Bidston now that the weather is slowly improving.
I do hope that this will be the last time that I do this. I want to continue this challenge now and do it properly and for your enjoyment here on my blog. I do hope that you will stick around and subscribe once again. I am going to write a blog update post in the near future for you all to explain what has been going on in my life, my brain, and my mind! I do hope that you will understand.
