It’s Sunday 21st June, the longest day of the year, and I’m spending it exploring Liverpool by bus, experiencing some routes that I don’t often get the chance to ride. From busy city corridors to quieter suburban streets, today’s journey is all about seeing the region from a different perspective while enjoying a variety of operators and services, including routes such as the 82, 166, and 21.
Along the way, I’ll also be checking out the brand-new Wright Electroliner buses that have recently joined the Merseytravel Metro fleet. With modern interiors, zero-emission technology, and a fresh new look, they represent the future of public transport across the Liverpool City Region. Join me as I travel across the network, discover new routes, and see what these latest additions have to offer.

From St John’s, I boarded the 82 towards Liverpool South Parkway, which was operated by one of the brand-new Wright Electroliner buses recently introduced on routes such as the 82, 86/86C and, more recently, the 10A. However, on this sunny Sunday, 21st June, I also spotted Electroliners working the 53 service to Crosby, showing how these new zero-emission buses are becoming an increasingly familiar sight across the network. It’s been quite a while since I last went on one of these bus adventures, so I’m really looking forward to sharing this journey and hope you enjoy reading about it as much as I enjoyed travelling it. I was also joined by my friend Kieran, who had travelled up from London to celebrate my birthday with me after I turned 34 on Saturday, 20th June. We’re already planning a similar adventure around the Wirral, riding a variety of bus routes and documenting the current network before it transitions to the new Metro system.

We then boarded a Wright Pulsar that had originally operated in Yorkshire, and it was certainly an interesting bus to ride, sounding noticeably different from the Pulsars we’re used to seeing around Liverpool. Our journey only lasted around 10 minutes before we hopped off halfway along the route and walked to the nearby main road to catch the 75 towards Queen Square Bus Station. This service was operated by BT66 MUP, a Volvo B5TL with a Wright Gemini 3 body, providing a comfortable ride back into the city centre. Once at Queen Square, we decided to take a well-earned break with a drink and a snack at the nearby Wetherspoons before continuing our adventure on the 21 towards Northwood, operated by Stagecoach using Wright StreetDeck SK68 LVY, adding another modern bus to an already varied and enjoyable day of exploring Liverpool’s bus network.

We then caught the 21 back towards Liverpool, this time onboard SM66 VCE. These Enviro 400MMC buses are rather lovely; I especially enjoy the Stagecoach ones. I had such a wonderful day hanging out with one of my best friends, Kieran, who came up from London for my birthday on Friday. It was the best time. I am hoping to do more of these adventure videos, so let me know down below what you’d like to see next!

With that said, that’s the end of this adventure, I had such a wonderful time traveling around Liverpool, headed to Liverpool South Parkway, then through various different towns around Liverpool like Speke, headed towards Belle Vale, then through Garston back towards Queen Square even went through Everton as well. Today at the time of writing this, my friend Kieran is sadly going home and I am going to miss them. I will be sharing more stations on here this week and over on my TikTok Page too!
