In today’s post, I am visiting a bunch of stations around the Liverpool Loop line, this includes Liverpool Lime Street however I won’t be officially ticking off the station until I have left the mainline station and visited stations on the line towards Newton-le-Willows, however the first official station of this post I visited was Moorfields station, this is a complex station with three platforms and a massive interchange between them, it reminds me somewhat of that of Kings Cross St Pancreas Station in London with multiple passage ways, lifts, escalator’s and more! However Moorfields is NOT the busiest station on the loop, that would be Liverpool Central with over 14 Million Passengers in 2024/25.

From James Street I headed through the tunnels under the river Mersey heading to Birkenhead North, I have already visited this in my first post when I visited stations from Hamilton Square through to Birkenhead North, I then changed at Birkenhead North station for my train towards New Brighton taking me to my first station on the branch line, this being Wallasey Grove Road, the station opened in 1888, this is also one of the lesser used stations on the line with over 490,000 Passengers in the year 2024/25, however Wallasey Village being the Least Used on this section with 469,056 Passengers in 2024/25. Wallasey Grove Road also features an award from the Cheshire Best Kept Station awards scheme in 2017 which you can see below!

From Wallasey Grove Road, I Contemplated on walking between it and Wallasey Village stations however it was a really HOT day and I didn’t really feel up to walking in the heat, instead I decided to wait around and get the next train having just missed the train due to arriving at Grove Road station a couple of minutes late. Grove Road is a lovely station; it still retains its Victorian-style station building and also has a rather lovely waiting room too! However in this heat, it is not air-cooled like it is on the trains. However, let’s head now to Wallasey Village Station.

I rather like Wallasey Village Station with it’s art deco design and the fact that it is high up on an embankment and the railway line cross the road on a Bridge, the engineering behind building this station at the time must have been pretty spectacular. The station opened in 1907 as Leasowe Road and was later renamed to the current name of Wallasey Village station. Thankfully I didn’t have very long to wait here at this station before then taking my final train to the end of the line in New Brighton. There is also a Disused Station called Warren which opened around the same time as Grove Road & New Brighton station but only survived until 1915. Wallasey Village essentially replaced the station and was more suited to its current location.

Well that is it, I have arrived at my final station for this post! New Brighton station is the busiest station on the line with 1,192,234 Passengers in the 2024/25 period.
