Hello and in this post I am visiting five brand new railway stations in the Birmingham City Region, starting our journey at Birmingham New Street one of the busiest stations outside of London, this station isn’t my favourite station in the world, I used to commute here when I lived in Coventry back in 2013 – 2015 for my studies at University. However back to today, I catch my first train which is one of WMR’s Class 196 Four car units calling at Moseley Village, Kings Heath & Pineapple Road.

Each station has the main facilities you would find at many modern railway stations in the United Kingdom, from Lift Access, Bike Racks, Ticket Machines & plenty of car parking spaces too, I rather like these new stations compare to those on the Northumberland line there is a tad more character here, If you would like me to visit the Northumeberland Line for a future blog post then do please let me know. However back to the main point of this blog. I next head to Moseley Village station originally just called Moseley and closed in 1941 along with the two other stations along this line.

As you can see the weather was pretty good on the day that I visited these stations, it was Wednesday 22nd April 2026, the stations on this line opened at the beginning of April where as the stations on the line from Birmingham to Shrewsbury opened back in March this year. However I was not able to attend the opening days due to financial reasons and also personal reasons too. However we are now making are way to our next and final two new stations to visit being Willenhall & Darlaston.
Once at Willenhall Station things didn’t quite go to plan, my earlier train at around 14:02 didn’t run due to something being caught on the overhead wires, however the train that runs along the line are class 196s and they don’t use Overhead Wires, these are Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) this confused me greatly. However from Willenhall I then took the 310 to Darlaston and then a taxi to the station its self.

And there we have it, the most recent new railway stations visited, that means we are vast approaching 2600 Stations in the United Kingdom, we once had over 8,000 Railway Stations however a lot of them where either Closed, Replaced, Moved or Demolished, there was a great period during the 1960s and 1970s with Dr Beeching who set out a plan by British Rail under the Conservatives to close many little branch lines and stations that weren’t making them any money however now we are trying to reverse those decisions. Let me know if you have been to any of these new stations yet. I would love to know.
